Environmental Commitment : In Harmony with our Island Environment

PROVIDING THE VERY BEST HOSPITALITY WHILST ADHERING TO THE VERY BEST ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES.

Castaway Island, Fiji is committed to providing our guests with well appointed, comfortable "bure" accommodations, innovative Modern Fijian cuisine together with an extensive range of guest amenities and activities. Most importantly our guest experience is enhanced by the warmth and genuine hospitality of our Fijian family of staff. Castaway offers a unique island style experience and is truly everyones place .....and pace. A chance to relax, unwind and enjoy life’s simple pleasures in harmony with our island environment.

We are committed to environmental responsibility - a key value of our operation - in preserving and protecting the island’s lush tropical vegetation, white sandy beaches and vibrant coral reefs by minimizing pollution and managing our human impact. In this regard Castaway, as a founding member of Mamanuca Environment Society (MES), has adopted the goals and objectives of the MES by raising awareness of the need to protect our fragile environment through education of our guests, staff and local communities alike.

We comply with all Fiji environmental legislation and in a further demonstration of our commitment, we have adopted and are benchmarked to the internationally recognized GREEN GLOBE 21 standard. We constantly monitor and improve the resort’s operation using relevant performance indicators of GREEN GLOBE 21 best practice techniques and are audited annually.A GREEN GLOBE benchmarked operation has undergone an independent assessment of measurements against key indicators, and has either met or exceeded them. These measurements include:
  • the development of an Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy
  • annual collection of measures in key environmental and social performance areas

We give preference to employing individuals and to sourcing products and services of local community origin. We maintain best practice techniques in our operation and the conduct of our business, in harmony with environmental and social commitments. We strive to ensure all employees receive the education and training necessary for them to carry out their work in an environmentally responsible manner and encourage and recognize employees for their contribution towards improving our environmental performance.

Our policy is communicated to all our employees and suppliers, made available on request to our associated stakeholders and guests, and is subject to independent annual audit and review.
